Historic home

Ashridge House invites you to explore the historic grounds and gardens, and relax at the Bakehouse Café. Once a royal residence to King Henry VIII and Princess Elizabeth I, you can now visit year-round to enjoy the scenic grounds, all just 30 minutes north of London.

The Bakehouse

The Bakehouse is a cosy café in the Ashridge House courtyard, serving homemade pastries, a seasonal menu, and coffee daily from 8:30am to 5pm. A favourite stop for dog walkers, cyclists, and visitors enjoying the historic surroundings.

Gardens

Our Grade II* listed historic gardens are open daily to visitors. Humphry Repton, the greatest landscape gardener of his day, was commissioned to design the formal gardens, and they remain intact today as the finest surviving example of his work, often referred to as his ‘Garden of Gardens.’
